Cosmetic acupuncture or facial rejuvenation acupuncture is a non-surgical method of reducing the signs of aging, without injections or drugs, and with minimal unwanted side effects. It is called rejuvenation, because it is more than a cosmetic procedure - it is a rejuvenation and revitalization process designed to make the whole body look and feel younger. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is based on the principle of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Many meridians either begin or end on the face while some have internal branches that go to the face.  Thus, practitioners of facial rejuvenation acupuncture know how to specifically affect the face while simultaneously treating the underlying factors that contribute to the aging process.

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture involves the superficial insertion of hair-thin needles, which stimulates both blood and energy to the face, thereby nourishing and moistening the skin. It also increases collagen production, which fills out fine lines and wrinkles, and gives firmness to the skin, producing a healthy complexion. Collagen is a protein found in skin cells which stops being produced as we age. A lack of collagen is responsible for wrinkles, fine lines and loss of skin elasticity.

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture has been shown to:
  • Increase collagen production and blood circulation
  • Reduce fine lines and soften deep wrinkles
  • Improve muscle tone and elasticity
  • Help lift drooping eyelides
  • Reduce stress evident in the face
  • Improve facial colour and complexion
  • Give face and eyes a radiant glow
  • Significantly reduce sagging around the eyes, jowls and cheeks
  • Reduce or eliminate bags under eyes
  • Reduce or eliminate puffiness
  • Help problems like acne
  • Hydrate dry skin and balance oily skin
  • Create physical and emotional wellness
  • Increase self-esteem
Keeping in mind that every person is different, treatment plans range from 10-14 sessions, usually once or twice a week. Best results are seen with twice a week frequency. Visible results can be expected after the 6th - 8th session (four weeks), which is the time of new collagen production. Results usually last 2-3 years. Maintenance sessions monthly are recommended to help results last longer.

Please note: facial rejuvenation acupuncture appointments differ from regular acupuncture appointments in length and fees.

did you know?

  • A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated with cosmetic acupuncture, 90% had marked effect with one course of treatment. The effects included: the skin becoming delicate and fair, improvement of the elasticity of facial muscles and leveling of wrinkles, a healthier complexion, and overall rejuvenation - not confined to the face
  • Cosmetic acupuncture, or facial rejuvenation acupuncture, has been performed for thousands of years in China. As early as the Sung Dynasty (960AD-1270AD), facial rejuvenation acupuncture was performed on the Empress and Emperor’s concubines. For centuries, the Chinese have known that beauty radiates from the inside out. If the internal body is nourished and the energy and blood are flowing smoothly, the external body will reveal this radiance.
